Green Moong Dal Curry(Sprouts Curry)

Hello friends.  Welcome to Bilvani’s Kitchen. Today I am going to share with you all a yummy snack –cum-curry recipe.

“Hi mamma I’m home, what snacks did you prepare for me today?” – this is the most common question every kid asks his/her mother after coming to home from school.

On the other side we mothers search on internet to prepare a new variety of snack every day to fill their hungry little tummy.

But these snacks should not only be tasty but healthy as well because every day we can’t give them fried or junk foods to satiate their hunger.

So the recipe which I am going to share with you all can be eaten alone as chat in the evening and also as a curry for chapati and phulka at night.

As an add-on this bowl of nutritious chat/curry can be prepared within 15 minutes with very little amount of oil.

So in today’s post I is going to share with you all a simple recipe called as “Sprouts Curry”.

Below are the ingredients required to prepare – Sprouts curry.

2.      Potato – 2 (medium size).

3.      Tomatoes – 2 (medium size).

4.      Onion – 1 (big size).

5.      Ginger – finely chopped.

6.      Green chili – 5

7.      Garlic – 2 pods.

8.      Dalchini -- half inch.

9.      Cloves – 2.

10.  Butter / Ghee – 2 tablespoons.

11.  Jeera – 1 tablespoon.

12.  Turmeric – 1 tablespoon.

13.  Salt – 2 tablespoon.

14.  Jeera powder – 1 teaspoon

15.  Dhaniya powder – 1 teaspoon.

16.  Coriander – finely chopped.

17.  Lemon – 1 (medium size).

Note: We need to soak green moong dal in water for 6 hours. After 6 hours drain all the water, cover the container and leave the soaked dal overnight. By morning we can observe fresh sprouts from dal.
That’s it your sprouts are ready to cook.

Preparation:

1.      Place a cooker on the stove. Add 1 spoon of ghee and let it heat for a minute.

2.      Add Dalchini, cloves, jeera and give it a nice stir.

              3.      Once you smell a nice aroma, add finely chopped green chili, ginger and garlic. Fry them for 2 minutes.

4.      Now add medium chopped onions and fry till they turn slightly brown.

5.      Now add tomatoes, a teaspoon of turmeric, salt, and red chili powder. Mix all ingredients nicely.

6.      Cover and cook the tomatoes for 5 minutes.

7.      Once tomatoes become soft and mushy, add sprouted green moong dal and potatoes. Mix all the ingredients nicely.

8.      Let the mixture cook on slow flame for 5 minutes.

9.      Finally add 1 table spoon of jeera powder, 1 tablespoon of dhaniya powder and stir the contents nicely.

10.  Now add 3 cups of water and a bunch of coriander leaves.

11.  Mix all the ingredients nicely.

12.  Close the cooker with a lid and cook the mixture for 6-7 whistles.

13.  Let it cool for 10 minutes.

14.  Remove the lid of pressure cooker. There will be small quantity of water left in the cooker.

15.  Switch on the flame, mash some potatoes using a spatula and mix all the ingredients well.

16.  Adjust the consistency of curry.  It should be medium thick same as chat which we eat outside.

17.  Dish out the curry into a bowl.

18.  Squeeze lemon juice on top of it and add half spoon of butter while serving. It enhances the taste of the curry. Do not forget to add lemon juice.
