POHA




Hi friends. Good Evening. Today I am going share with you a tasty and healthy Maharashtrian breakfast recipe. 

We all know that breakfast is an important meal of the day. You may have read in many articles that having a healthy breakfast will keep us energetic and active throughout the day.

So today I am going to explain you one such recipe which is very famous among Marathas. The main ingredient required for preparation of this recipe is Flattened rice/Atukulu which is easily available in almost all super markets.

I actually fell in love with this recipe when I came to know its health benefits. Below I am listing down some of the benefits:
·        Rich in iron.
·        Low Gluten levels.
·        Light and easily digestible.
·        Rich in protein and vitamins.
·        Provides instant energy.



Excuse me for a long introduction but I really wanted to give an insight about the recipe before revealing its name, OK here is the recipe name - “POHA”.

Below are the ingredients required for preparing recipe:
1. Flattened rice/Atukulu – 1 cup.
2. Green peas – 10 to 15.
3. Carrot – finely chopped.
4. Onions – finely chopped.
5. Tomatoes – finely chopped.
6. Cauliflower – medium chopped.
7. Ginger – finely chopped.
8. Groundnuts – handful.
9. Lemon – big size.
10. Green chili – finely chopped.
11. Mustard seeds – 1 teaspoon.
12. Jeera – 1 teaspoon.
13. Chana dal – 1 teaspoon.
14. Urad dal – 1 teaspoon.
15. Salt – 1 tablespoon.
16. Coriander – finely chopped.
17. Turmeric – 1 teaspoon.
18 Oil – 3 tablespoons.


Procedure:

1. First take a bowl and add Flattened rice into it, now add little amount of water and rinse Flattened rice for a minute. Squeeze all the water from it.
                                                      


2. Now add turmeric, salt and squeeze lemon juice on moist Flattened rice and mix all the ingredients well.
                                                       
                                        

3. Place a pan on the stove, add 3 tablespoons of oil and heat it for a minute.

4. Add mustard seeds and let it splutter. Once spluttering is done then add jeera, chana dal, urad dal, green chili, ginger and fry for a minute.

                             

5. Now add onions and fry for a minute. Once they become soft then add carrot, green peas, cauliflower, groundnuts and fry all of them.

                                                      


6. Once they turn a bit brown then add chopped tomatoes and mix all the ingredients well. Close the pan with a lid and let all the vegetables cook for 5 minutes.

                                                     


7. Once the tomatoes turns soft and mushy then add the Flattened rice mixture and mix all the ingredients well. You can add coriander at this point of time.
                                                     
                                                         



8. Close the pan with a lid and cook on slow flame for 5 minutes.

9. The Flattened rice will become soft and aromatic like below.

                             

10. Transfer the POHA to a plate and its ready to serve.

                         


Sprinkle some sev/mixture while serving to your family. Tasty and yummy POHA is ready. Trust me it tastes awesome, and your children will love it.

It’s very healthy and requires very less oil, and it takes only 15 to 20 minutes to prepare.
